#Superfly Was A Fucking Trip

June 16, 2018

Friday, June 14th

Holy shit. I’m a whirl of emotions right now. Just got home and shared the most personal piece I’ve written yet on marijuana.com. I wrote about how triggering celebrity suicides are to those who are suffering in silence. It’s a terrible domino effect and there seems to be yet a solution. For anyone out there that needs a shoulder to lean on, I got you. Text me anytime. Even if I don’t know you. I got you.

On a lighter note, got to enjoy the evening after work with my babygirl Noor. Date night: Superfly at one of the 3 AMC Burbank theaters. Our last date, we saw Oceans 8, which we both thoroughly enjoyed. This time, it was playing at 7:10pm at AMC Town Center 6 and got away with a student ticket for $15. Day made. I definitely wanted to see this movie because Future was the man behind the soundtrack. Also, Trevor Jackson is our old intern’s stepbrother, and I knew the villain, KR. I hadn’t even seen the trailer but I knew it was about trappin’ in Atlanta and I was here for it.

IMDB plot: With his sights set on retiring, a successful young drug dealer sets up one last big deal.

So basically, this is a remake of the 1972 classic film, which I didn’t realize until someone asked me if I thought it would be better than the original. I was like oh shit, there’s an original? I actually was having a hard time getting into it in the beginning, but then it got REALLY good. Like, in the most fucked up ways. This film is all about loyalty and getting to the fucking bag. It’s two hours long, but it didn’t feel long at all cause there’s so much action and plot twists. I was really here for the cameos too: Zaytoven, Rick Ross, Big Boi, and probably a bunch more we missed.

This also made me want to move to Atlanta, something I’ve been plotting for a minute now. I’d say this is worth checking out if you’re into hip-hop culture. If you’re not, go see Incredibles 2.
