Mary Poppins Returns w/ Emily Blunt Is The Cutest

December 29, 2018

Saturday, December 29th

Happy Saturday. Today I had a bit of a rough day. For someone like me who’s bipolar, the bad days are REALLY bad. My head goes places it doesn’t need to go & I tend to let my thoughts get the best of me. Shout out to Duncan who drove all the way to DTLA to hang out w/ me. It’s crazy how many people you think are your close friends that don’t even check on you.

Before I get all the way emo, we saw a really happy movie tonight: Mary Poppins Returns. This is literally my last weekend to watch movies before the new year, so taking full advantage. Y’ll prob think I’m crazy at this point, but I snuck in again. We hit the 6:40pm showing at Regal L.A. Live, where I definitely was last night for Vice. Honestly, walking around LA Live & seeing the pretty lights is part of why I stan this spot. I’m going to visit that Christmas tree until the day it leaves.

IMDB plot: Decades after her original visit, the magical nanny returns to help the Banks siblings and Michael’s children through a difficult time in their lives.

Per the title, this is the sequel to the original Mary Poppins. I didn’t even know it was Emily Blunt until the credits started at the very end. The whole time, I’m thinking this girl looks SO familiar. Smh. She’s so fire. Literally killed this role, singing and all. I wasn’t prepared for the musical aspect of it, but we were all here for it. Given my low mental state, I was hoping for meaningful life messages to take away — shout out to Mary for coming through.

The movie is a little over 2 hours (10 minutes over), which is rather long but it’s so cute that you can’t even get mad. It got ~80% on Rotten Tomatoes which is pretty high. V family friendly, our theater was packed from kids to seniors. We got shushed in the very beginning which annoyed me at first, but then I just realized to each his own. Everyone has their own quirks, values, morals, etc.

I need to be grateful to be alive and stop freaking out about tomorrow. The film ended w/ a loud applause. The end.
