Today started out with an interview with Inglewood rapper Skeme. If you know, you know. If you don’t, you’re about to. His record “36 OZ” with Chris Brown gives me so much life. I fucked with him before that, but that record really just stuck with me. Also, I remember seeing him open for Uzi on New Years and thinking, that’s mad random. But I just made the connection. They’re both signed to DJ Drama’s Now Generation label. It all makes sense. Today, I was interviewing him for Young California. I def met him at Powerhouse but don’t think he remembers lmao.
So wild. His sister actually lives in my apartment building lmao. I died. Literally all we had to do was go downstairs. Sometimes, the universe just knows lmao. Skeme is always super chill. Def just woke up lmao and it was like 1pm. I fuck with him though. Excited to hear his new EP Second Notice. Huge thanks to Fairley for this <3.

Tonight! The long-awaited Daniel Caesar show in LA. This was actually night 2 of 2 sold-out shows at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood. If you guys haven’t heard of Daniel, it is NOT too late. Just listen to his album Freudian and you’ll understand. Just listen. You literally cannot deny the greatness in his music. R&B bliss. That album is probably one of the best projects to drop this year. @ me. I remember seeing Daniel perform at No Name on Fairfax in the most intimate setting. I was literally 5 feet away from him as he sat on that stool and serenaded us with his voice. Don’t forget the guitar too.

First of all, sad I missed Snoh Aalegra. I know she’s fire but I had to go home after work and regroup. I pull up around 10pm to find the entire music industry out lmao. The support is real. The support for REAL TALENT is real. Daniel took a little longer to come on stage than most people would have liked, but when 11pm rolled around, it was all soon forgotten. He took the stage with a long mic stand and full band behind him. I’ve literally seen his career blow up in the past few months and could not be happier for him. Shout out to his killer team and Kim for being an absolute doll ALWAYS. His first song of the evening was “Japanese Denim” and it could not have been more perfect.
best part by @DanielCaesar is every girl’s wedding song.❤️ pic.twitter.com/gZUB52wyqR

There were some technical difficulties as Daniel couldn’t seem to plug in a chord into his guitar. Some fans were wildin’ but others were patient. “Best Part” featuring H.E.R. is the cutest song known to mankind. It def has me sitting here wishing I had a boo. I legit wonder how many people choose this to be their wedding song. The best part (no pun intended) was everyone in the room singing along to every single word. Side note, I look up and my eyes fall upon G-Eazy and Halsey on the balcony literally all over each other lmao. No comment.

Daniel asked the crowd who was with him when he dropped his first album Praise Break back in 2014. There were a good amount of people who cheered. That made me feel like a day one poser lmao but hey. He proceeded to play “Violet,” which he said he wrote “by himself, for himself” back in high school. At this point, I really notice how beautiful the stage was, laced with purple and pink lights.
.@DanielCaesar bringing out @Jessiereyez was the best surprise ever. almost cried lmao ❤️ pic.twitter.com/fFHJN3wgLm

“Death & Taxes,” “Hold Me Down,” and then my FAVORITE part of the evening: Jessie Reyez. I ran into her on my way in actually lmao I came through the back. Had a nice convo and asked her why she and Daniel haven’t made music yet together. She said they really just “vibe with each other.” So cute. I know they’re about to cook something up. “Figures” had the Fonda speechless. No joke. Please listen to Jessie Reyez. She is not only so talented, but a magnificent human being. Btw, Daniel’s from Toronto. Shout out to the 6.
TAKE ME AWAY. @DanielCaesar brought out @internetsyd my heart is full. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/vYCbv4ajvC

I was so ready for this. Spoiler alert, I asked my girl who Daniel brought out last night lmao. I literally just saw Syd at Camp Flog Gnaw this weekend. “Take Me Away” off Freudian was magical. The crowd by me was screaming for her to do her own songs, but unfortunately, she did not. Daniel made up for it though. “Neu Roses” is the best record off the project. Hands down. That shit could move mountains. Next, he brought out Arin Ray from Ohio. Daniel is so sweet for bringing out all these artists at his sold out show. Most peoeple can’t even headline the Fonda, let alone sell it out.
He closed out the show with “Blessed” and “Get You” featuring Kali Uchis. SO. GOOD.
