J. Cole Shuts Down Night 2 At Sold Out Staples Center

August 26, 2018

Saturday, August 25th

All I have to say is, thank God for music. I had the most gnarly dental procedure (6.5 hours!!) and was literally in my feelings. My babygirl Danielle (#baybie) came through last minute with an extra ticket to J. Cole at Staples Center. I honestly didn’t even know this was happening. I drove straight from the dentist chair in Encino looking and feeling like a straight mess. Confession: I had FOMO about missing this last night, because I chose E-40 instead.

Welcome to the KOD Tour, with openers Jaden Smith and Young Thug. This was night 2 of 2 sold out shows at one of the biggest venues in LA. Brazy. I was just in a deep convo with someone about how KOD is the album of the year. I went back to it today and I finally understood why. Cole is spitting about real shit. Real life shit that actually matters. Shit that we can relate to and try to better ourselves with. As a bonus, we got to hear him play all his old hits. “Nobody’s Perfect,” “Work Out,” “Wet Dreamz”… the list goes on.

Again, super not trying to be seen but everyone was in the building: Mustard, Wale, Cozz… and those are just people I saw in the cut. My girl said hi to Cole’s baby on our way in (so adorable), and I drove right past Jaden. I guess Kanye and Kodak Black came through yesterday. Shout out to Dreamville and shout out to Bas who also dropped a fucking fire project. Cole had a long set and he always loves to talk in between songs. Lots of motivational speeches and even a shout out to Kobe Bryant (and LeBron James who I’m not a fan of). He also went on a spiel about twitter A&R’s and how he used to be one. That was a moment.

I didn’t watch the entire show because I head to Mura Masa at The Novo after, but best believe got my fix. Cole world.
