BOOMERANG is back! On Monday, February 11th, BET hosted an exclusive premiere/screening for the new subversive comedy series, inspired by everything from romance to friendship to love and sex.
The series is produced by actress and writer Lena Waithe, who made history as the first African-American woman to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for her work on Netflix’ Master of None. The plot picks up about 25 years after the movie and follows a group of childhood friends who are all attempting to find their place in the world.
Trending All Day was in attendance to cover the red carpet at Wolf Theater inside Saban Media Center in North Hollywood, graced by the likes of Lala Milan, Lena Waithe, Terrence J, Lil Rel Howery, and the beautiful Halle Berry, who also starred in the original film.
What does it mean for this to be your first lead role on a show?
Lala Milan: For this to be my first lead role is a blessing and super exciting. Being a first time actress is an amazing experience. I’m super happy to be able to do this especially with great leaders such as Lena Waithe and the direction of Dime Davis. I’m honored just to be able to be a part of something that’s such a legendary movie.
What does it mean for you to be here today?
Lil Rel Howery: It means a lot. I saw this at Sundance and it was still one of the best reboots I’ve seen. I’m a huge Boomerang fan so I was coming with judgemental thoughts. They hit a home run because they didn’t try — to me personally — to emulate what the movie did. They did it their way. I’m proud of Lena and the whole crew, it’s gonna be great.
What are you most excited for today?
Lena Waithe: I’m most excited for this to be happening. For this to be going down, for us to finally be in the same room and watching it together. I’m excited to be with Halle and the whole crew. I couldn’t be more excited, truly.
