Sunday, June 9th
Sooooo… I just saw The Last Black Man in San Francisco, and I’m honestly not sure how I feel. The cast came to the station & that’s when I first heard about the film. Was out this weekend & had a few people tell me how fire it was. Went on Rotton Tomatoes & saw it had 100% which is v rare. Convinced my bro & my girl Nykki to go. We hit the 7:30pm showing at Arclight Hollywood, which is legit the only theater in the city playing it.
I’m sure with the ratings, it will eventually hit all theaters. But I had to see what the fuss was about. All I knew walking in is that this film is about gentrification in SF. I’m from the Bay, but not SF. I usually say San Jose because that’s the closest thing to Sunnyvale. In all honesty, I’m not even a fan of SF. I feel bad saying that because I have so much love for the Bay, but it’s just not my steez.
IMDB plot: A young man searches for home in the changing city that seems to have left him behind.
It was a solid two hours of a black man’s journey living in SF. It was honestly a bit slow for me. The picture & plot probably made the film, but I didn’t love it. I feel like this is the first time I’m admitting to not loving a movie too lmao. I’m proud? The credits were lit, Brad Pitt is an executive producer. Also saw Danny Glover played the grandpa… got him mixed up w/ Donald Glover. Smh lmao. Legit was like how’d I miss Gambino?! Mike Epps is in it too.
Anyways, today was also the last day of LA Pride, which I celebrated a tiny bit at Dolls Kills on Fairfax earlier. Did an interview, went on a run, saw a movie, & here we are. I can’t believe it’s already mid-June. Time is flying.
