‘First Love’ Was Straight Up In Japanese

October 6, 2019

Sunday, October 6th

Happy Sunday! Time is flying & I’m not sure what to do about it. We’re already in October. Brazy. Today, got to hang with my brothers. I look forward to these Sunday’s more often than not. We watched First Love at AMC Burbank Town Center 8 at 7:45pm. It got 97% on Rotton Tomatoes which is the only reason I chose it lmao but it wasn’t even in English! Wtf.

Rotten Tomatoes plot: The film is the prolific auteur, Takashi Miike, at his most fun and anarchic, a noir-tinged yakuza film blending genres in the story of a young boxer and a call girl, who fall passionately in love while getting innocently caught up in a drug-smuggling scheme over the course of one night in Tokyo.

Really not sure what to say about this. The theater was packed though, s/o to reclining leather seats. I might have picked this also because it takes place in Tokyo & I’m headed there for the first time next weekend. But this had like a Kill Bill vibe. It was super quirky and lots of blood and violence, which I think Japanese films specialize in. It was an hour 48 minutes long and definitely dragged out… I would skip this if you’re considering lmao. I could barely follow.

Entertaining but yeah. Nah.
