Seasoned artist manager, A&R, and live show producer Jennifer Horton, founder of Matrix Artists, has been a force within the music industry for over 10 years. Her accomplishments span from multi-Platinum records to sold out tours with the likes of Chris Brown, Post Malone, Lil Wayne, Rich the Kid, Kris Wu, K-Pop sensation BIGBANG, and more. The recent addition of Matrix Studios marks an expansion of the company to offer artists a home for in-studio productions.
Walk into Matrix Studios in downtown Los Angeles past the plaques on the wall, and enter a full-service soundstage for live streaming and recording content of all kinds. Taking place in over 6,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, the venue is ducked off in a private, gated location.
Launched during the COVID-19 shutdown in Summer 2020, the studio is a collaboration between Matrix Artists, long-time client, Music Director/Producer Gil Smith II (G Eazy, Lil Wayne, Rod Wave) and CEO Claire Mara Takamatsu of experiential design and multimedia company 20FT Bear Media (ComplexCon, Nike, Coachella).
As far as working through the pandemic, Jennifer deems 2020 the most challenging year of her career. “I run several companies between Matrix, my clients, and our various ventures, so the stakes were high to keep everything and everyone afloat,” she states. “I appreciate everyone who was a part of the team to keep pushing forward. Like Diddy said, if 2020 didn’t bring the hustle out of you—it’s not in you!”
Together they shared a common goal to maintain the passion and love for live performances, and offer their clientele endless options to create innovative content and stay connected to fans.
Speaking on the most fulfilling part of her job, Claire Mara Takamatsu states, “I get to create and do what I love with people I love.”
To date, everyone from Saweetie to G Herbo to NLE Choppa has utilized the space, along with big companies and brands such as BET, T-Mobile, Audiomack, and more. The turnkey white cyc soundstage has quickly become a hub for livestream performances, music videos, photoshoots, commercials, podcasts, and greenscreen/VFX content. Through tech partnerships and relationships, Matrix provides artists and brands the ability to create innovative content and to market their music in the digital world, including the option of utilizing extended reality (XR) including 360, AR and VR productions.
Sticking to the COVID-19 guidelines, Matrix Studios also played an integral part in developing and producing acclaimed journalist and on-camera host Shirley Ju’s new show, Shirley’s Temple, featuring chart-topping and breakout artists like Trippie Redd, YBN Nahmir, and Lexy Panterra, and 2KBABY.
This month, Matrix has extended their reach even further to Miami, Florida. Partnering with cutting edge local studio Brandstar which features a 70-ft LED wall and ceiling, Horton and the South Florida team have recently produced live performances for Tory Lanez, rising artists Melii and Jimmy Levy as well as brand spots for NFL player Jerome Baker, M.I.A. Brewery, and more to come.
