If you’ve ever felt like a fish out of water, then you’ll be able to relate to British singer-songwriter Ella Rosa’s story. After being born and raised in England for the majority of her adolescence, her family abruptly moved to New York when she was 12. Suddenly feeling alienated and confused from being in a new country, Ella turned to an unlikely inspiration: Sting.
In particular, she found a kindred spirit in the form of his song “English Man in New York” and now, she’s marking the next chapter of her upcoming EP by covering the track as her lead single.
About the track premiered today exclusively on Flaunt, Ella states “Sting has always been an idol of mine and when I moved to NY around the age of 12, it was sort of a culture shock for me. I thought there wouldn’t be many differences in the US culture compared to the UK culture but boy was I wrong!! This record helped to put that experience into words for me.”
Breathing new life into the track through her cover, Ella blends Sting’s originality with her own unique blend of R&B and pop.
