Jarline is only 20 years old and already living out her dreams on the daily. While you may recognize her as a Savage X Fenty ambassador, or maybe the face of NYX cosmetics, the Queens, New York native is far more than just a pretty face—she’s a recording artist in her own right.
Falling in love with the process of making music in elementary school, which includes playing the trumpet at 9 years old and studying keys, the Dominican recording artist went on to unleash her debut single titled “Potion,” which garnered more than 500K streams across all platforms. It even caught the attention of SZA and Rihanna, two artists Jarline has long admired.
Fast forward to today, the rising star serves as the first female artist signed to the newly-launched record label Spring Sound, founded by music executive and mogul Steve Rifkind. Now, she unleashes her newest single “Ghost,” described as a product of her emotions at the time.
Speaking on the making of “Ghost,” Jarline states, “My session with the Gittens brothers was my first time recording since moving to LA from New York, I was very vulnerable and anxious. I was still early on in my healing from my last relationship, and had the strongest urge to run away and look at my life from the outside. It led me to reflect on the types of relationships I was holding on to, both romantic and platonic. I let only my family and a handful of friends know I was moving across the country, I was tired of explaining myself and begging for reciprocity from others. Words are words but actions speak louder, and I no longer wanted to ignore my gut feeling. No more letting things slide. If someone disrespects me, they lose access to me. I wanted to blow off some of that steam into my music.”
Jarline hopes to have that same effect on listeners, to yell the lyrics and release whatever they’re holding inside. She adds, “It’s healthy to let the emotions out. I want them all to know they’re safe and loved. When they set boundaries and choose themselves, they’re choosing the universe.”
Moral of the story: you are not alone. We’re in this together.
