Sunday, June 20th
Holy shit, it’s crazy to be it’s already halfway through the year. Time is flying man. It’s 2am & I just got home from watching In The Heights. Yes, it’s a musical. Yes, I enjoyed every minute of it! I officially renewed my AMC A-List Stubs membership which gives you 3 movies per week for $24 a month. You pretty much get your money’s worth after 2 movies a month… life hack!
Literally saw The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard last night, after 2 hours of yoga. Similar story today, spent most of my Sunday working, going to yoga, & was super looking forward to this. Shout out to my girl Riley for mobbing with me! We hit the 9:45pm showing at AMC Burbank 16. Our theater was pretty much empty, minus maybe 10 people total. Honestly, I didn’t think I liked musicals, but this was actually incredibly wholesome and endearing. Damn near almost cried like 3x… I’m so soft!
IMDB plot: A film version of the Broadway musical in which Usnavi, a sympathetic New York bodega owner, saves every penny every day as he imagines and sings about a better life.
Sooo had no idea this was based off an actual Broadway musical, that makes it way doper. Immediately, you’re sucked into the hustle and bustle of New York city, which made me want to visit realllly bad. Everyone I talk to that’s out there is living their best life. But anyways, this movie is 2 hours and 23 minutes so you definitely have to commit. I think it’s available on HBO Max too, but honestly going to the movies make the movie so much better! On God, way better. I don’t think I would have sat through this at home. Ya girl has major ADD, & being in the theater forces me to not check my phone.
Anthony Ramos is the main star, he acted in A Star Is Born and Hamilton. In the movie, he runs a bodega in New York, on a block where the Latin community and culture is super prominent. There’s a ton of life lessons, romance, just relatable things such as not being able to get an apartment because your credit score is too low. Okay I’m getting sleepy, basically yes I’d recommend you to go watch this in theaters! Especially if you like musicals, you’ll appreciate this one. <3
