“In the middle of the fire, there was a moment when I tried to count all of the things I could salvage, and even with every material thing I could find, I had nothing!” said Armani White, carrying a double-edged torch of determination and despair. “But I got up and kept fighting every time, because it’s nothing ever worth losing if I lost it in vain.”
The 24-year old rapper embraces life’s toughest moments in his latest EP titled Things We Lost In The Fire. The project is an emotional 5-track journey starting at his traumatic loss of four family members in a 2006 house fire, ending the timeline at this past year where another house fire left him homeless and wrongfully accused of criminal Arson.
Throughout the writing and recording of this project, Kelly Portis, a frequent collaborator of Armani’s, was found dead from another house fire in California. All of these burdens can be felt as Armani opens the track crooning: “This year done gave us too many angels.” The song has a haunting-atmospheric outro that’s beautifully sang and bleeds into the second offering, “Watch Your Self.” The mood on this song is a lot more menacing as Armani raps with fire in his heart and a chip on his shoulder.
