Hey y’all! Dating back a bit, I actually went to see King Richard on Thanksgiving Day. But I’ve been so busy!! 🙁 Just moved apartments, finally got my own place. It’s been stressful to say the least. Not a fan of dropping all this bread on furniture… not to mention crazy rent prices in LA. $3K for a one-bedroom, I’m sick! But I wanted to stay nearby Little Tokyo so I could drop off Slim at my brother’s while I work. A lot of my stuff has been in-person lately so it’s been hard to be a good dog mom. Also had a rather rough holiday weekend so here I am trying to stay positive.
BUT KING RICHARD! My intern was the one who told me about this. His words: “you haven’t heard of King Richard?! The new Will Smith movie??” First of all, I’ve been so busy I haven’t been able to even check what’s out in the movies. But Will Smith playing Venus and Serena Williams’ father? And it’s based on a true story! I love films that educate you so I was 10000% in. We hit the 6:30pm showing at AMC Century City 15. The whole theater clapped afterwards lmao I love when that happens.
IMDB plot: A look at how tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams became who they are after the coaching from their father Richard Williams.
I honestly have nothing bad to say about this movie. It’s 2.5 hours so definitely lengthy, but it’s so good the entire time you don’t even notice. I’m honestly shook I had no idea about Venus & Serena William’s lives or careers, didn’t even know they were from Compton! Shook. To see the amount of work they put in to become great… sooooo inspiring. So motivating. So beautiful. So well-deserved. It’s so crazy to see how Venus was the star for a moment, but then Serena comes in right behind her and is now deemed one of the greatest tennis players to ever do it.
My goal is to inspire you guys to go see this movie! It’s on HBO Max, but you know I love going to the movies. No cell phone zone, I literally hate being on my phone. This movie was soooo good & the girls who played Venus & Serena did so good. Lots of family themes & just the reality of what it takes to be GREAT. I highly highly recommend you go see this! <3
