It’s Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, and the weather in Los Angeles is cloudier than expected. But no worries, it’s always a vibe when there’s Afrobeats involved!

May 28th proved to be the last of AFRICON, the 4-day event that aimed to uplift and acknowledge the continent of Africa and the Diaspora. Coinciding with Africa Day, the conference reels in all the hottest names in music, business, entertainment, technology, activism, giving attendees a chance to learn and celebrate African culture at its finest.

The last day of the festivities took place outside in the parking lot of Baldwin Hills Mall, as fans gathered near the stage to enjoy nothing but straight Afrobeats at the Afro Music Festival. Host V-Live introduced each guest, while sharing some words of his own about what this conference means to him.

Afro Music Fest is one of the many things from AFRICON conference. AFRICON conference is a conference that brings together all of Africa, Whether you’re in Africa or in America, it’s to connect everyone who’s black and of African descent and heritage. It’s going to be here in LA,  continued on and forever from 2022 and beyond.”

AFRICON is founded by Damilare Kujembola and Timmy Adeyeba, presented by Amplify Africa. While the backstage access offered guests real, authentic Nigerian food, including a huge plate of jollaf rice, fans couldn’t wait for Jidenna to take the stage.

And while most were ready for Jidenna to perform all his hits such as “Classic Man” and “Bambi,” he actually stepped on stage as part of Chiefy Chiefy with Nana Kwabenain, delivering a rare DJ performance. Nana is best known for co-producing Jidenna’s breakout hit “Classic Man.”
