Monday, May 1st
Hey y’ll! I’m sooo behind! I went to this screening on May 1st, it’s now May 6th. Better late than never? Anyways! Had the pleasure of seeing The Blackening at TCL Chinese Theaters in Hollywood, before the movie releases on June 16th. My girl Rilee described it as a Scary Movie type film, a horror comedy that really highlights black culture, but in a light-hearted way.
IMDB plot: Seven black friends who go away for the weekend only to find themselves trapped in a cabin with a killer who has a vendetta. Will their street smarts and knowledge of horror movies help them stay alive? Probably not.

Essentially, the film sees a group of black friends who reunite for Juneteenth at a cabin in the woods, only to find themselves trapped with a twisted killer. The all-star cast includes Antoinette Robertson, Dewayne Perkins, Sinqua Walls, Grace Byers, X Mayo, Melvin Gregg, Jermaine Fowler, Yvonne Orji, and Jay Pharoah. Honestly, they are all hilarious & the synergy between the group was comedy. I really enjoyed this film! It’s only an hour 36 minutes too so totally doable. Whoever wrote the script is definitely talented as hell, we were busting out laughing at the jokes.
I know this is super short, but definitely recommend you go watch! Especially if you are black. I think you’ll really enjoy it.
