‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ Was Honestly Way Too Long

June 4, 2023

Saturday, June 3rd

I can’t believe it’s June! We’re halfway through 2023 & that’s actually crazy to think about. This weekend I escaped to Avondale, Arizona, which is near West Phoenix I believe? Who knows. All I know was the heat was no joke! It was like 100 degrees. The worst part is getting into your car after it’s been parked outside for a minute. Like it’s fucking hot!

But I was soooo happy to escape LA. I had a stressful week but shot two episode of Shirley’s Temple, subscribe to my Youtube if you haven’t! Shot my 54th & 55th episode, that meant everything to me. Saturday night, we went to go see Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. I low key feel like this movie is taking the shine from The Little Mermaid, but low key they can both coexist. Both are making history: Halle Bailey plays the first black Ariel on Disney, and Spider-Man sees the first black Spider-Man in Marvel. Powerful.

IMDB plot: Miles Morales catapults across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. When the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles must redefine what it means to be a hero.

OKAY, so this is the sequel to 2018’s SpiderMan: Into the SpiderVerse. It’s so funny because I remember the first one being sooo good. I actually left a festival in LA to go see this movie when it came out, opening weekend. I had my brothers pick me up from the festival & we mobbed to the movie theaters. I was def lit, so I remember LOVING the movie. I thought it was sooo funny & entertaining!

This one.. not so much. Don’t get me wrong, I was laughing towards the middle (it took a sec to warm up), but 2 hours minutes is WAY too long for a cartoon movie. Definitely shut my eyes briefly lmao maybe we were just tired. But it dragged a bit. Then after the long wait, they had the audacity to leave us with a cliffhanger!! Alluding to third sequel of Spider-Verse. Plus, our theater was loud af. Hella kids. It was a lot going on. Love the theme of inclusion & diversity though!

I was really hyped off the film because Metro Boomin did the theme song, I interviewed him for Flaunt recently! If you got kids, maybe take them. They don’t know what’s going on anyways lmao. Hope everything has a great week!
