B-Real made his name as frontman for rap group Cypress Hill, but his career as a cannabis entrepreneur has widened his reach far beyond music.
Today, B-Real has turned one of the group’s biggest songs, “Dr. Greenthumb,” into a full-blown franchise, opening up multiple Dr. Greenthumb’s dispensaries around the city of Los Angeles. He also hosts a weekly podcast, The Dr. Greenthumb Show, which airs every Monday through Friday on his own B-Real TV.
On Saturday, September 16, B-Real opened the doors to his fifth Dr. Greenthumb’s location in West Los Angeles, located on 12235 Wilshire Blvd. This follows his previous four shops located at LAX, La Mesa, Cathedral City, and one in San Francisco in the Bay Area.
At 10 a.m., fans were lined down the block to celebrate the grand opening, which kicked off with a green ribbon cutting. The first 250 people were gifted with a goodie bag,\ and a chance to meet B-Real himself.
The event drew quite the buzz, with lowriders parked outside and Cheech Marin coming by for a visit and some photos. Inside, the festivities included a photo booth, a Dr. Greenthumb mascot and multiple vendors such as American Weed Co., Bloom and True Classic. B-Real’s own cannabis brand, Insane OG, was also in stock.
Tiffany Wright, COO of Dr. Greenthumb’s West L.A., said, “We’re super stoked. A lot of us have deep roots here on the Westside, three of our managers went to UCLA. I lived and worked in the neighborhood before I got into cannabis 14 years ago. This is a passion project five years in the making with our social equity partner Jamie, one of the first licensed Latina cultivators in the state. He’s been a close family friend of our organization at La Brea Collective for 14 years and we’re thrilled after five years of licensing, red tape to finally open our doors. Have everybody out.”
With a large black and white mural of Cypress Hill — Sen Dog, DJ Muggs, B-Real and Bobo — behind her, Wright continued: “B-Real is an inspiration to me. I’ve always found people who openly smoke cannabis, consume it without caring about how it will be perceived. He’s been doing that long before it was mainstream, and I love that.”
This West LA store serves as the closest Dr. Greenthumb dispensary to Santa Monica, perfect if you’re headed to the beach or simply enjoying the beauty of the city. They also offer a 30% discount for all new customers indefinitely.
