Xzibit is the true definition of a legend, far beyond his contributions to the rap game. The West Coast spitter first began rapping at the age of 14, before eventually catching the attention of Dr. Dre. Soon, X found himself in the studio with Snoop Dogg for “Bitch Please” and Eminem for “What’s The Difference.” To date, both records stand as timeless hits… and let’s not even get into X’s solo endeavors. “It’s Mr. X to the Z, Xzibit!”

Xzibit Launches Xzibit’s West Coast Cannabis: Bel Air’s First And Only Licensed Cannabis Store And Delivery Service

Fast forward to today, Xzibit just reached new heights as an entrepreneur: opening the FIRST and ONLY licensed cannabis store and delivery service in Bel Air. On Saturday, April 28th, the grand opening for Xzibit’s West Coast Cannabis (XWCC) commenced, sitting beautifully at 641 N. Sepulveda Boulevard to cater specifically to the surrounding neighborhoods of Los Angeles. The retail store takes over the second floor of the building, with legends like Snoop Dogg and DJ Quik sharing the exciting news on social media.

Xzibit Speaks On Entering Cannabis Retail In California

Right before the ribbon cutting, Xzibit stated, “It is not easy being in cannabis. It is not a walk in the park, it is not something that people can jump in and out of. It’s not putting your name on a bag. It’s not being able to take somebody’s weed, put it in the store and think you’re gonna be filming rap videos for the rest of your life. This is a long marathon, people will have to understand it is a medicine. It is built for our bodies, and nobody can own the plant. This is about appealing to our lifestyle.”

He added: “This couldn’t happen without people actually in [for] each other and trusting each other. This is called Xzibit’s West Coast Cannabis. Even though my name is on the building, I built this for us. This is a celebration of our neighborhoods, our sports teams, our bravado, our music, our entertainment, our beaches, our weather, our environment. When people come and visit this, this should be one of the stops, that’s like going to Roscoe’s. We want to make this part of the L.A. experience because we built this for us.”

The fun-filled Sunday featured live music, food, activations, local vendors, giveaway prizes, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:20pm. University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA) and University of Southern California (USC) Cannabis clubs were also in attendance, while all those present were able to receive a 60 percent discount off all products in store.

Xzibit Talks Hip Hop, Beefs, And Pimp My Ride

Honeysuckle had the opportunity to chat with Xzibit about the moment he fell in love with Hip-Hop, and his take on rap beef today.

SHIRLEY JU: What was the moment you fell in love with Hip-Hop?

XZIBIT: Geez, my brother had a blue Kangol and he always kicked my ass every time I touched it. I loved being able to put that on my head and then recite Radio from LL Cool J. As a kid, being able to follow those moments and feel the energy of that, that’s when I fell in love with it.

What is your favorite non-rap project?

Man… to tell you the truth, I’m a big fan of the 60s, 70s. I listen to a lot of Peter Gabriel, a lot of Fleetwood Mac. Something from that era. Three Dog Night, shit like that.

You’ve gone on record about your thoughts on Hip-Hop. What are your thoughts on rap beefs today? Specifically with Drake versus everyone.

I mean, nobody’s gonna die. That’s the best part about it. It can get ugly. As long as they keep it on wax, it’s healthy. Sometimes, you gotta trim the playing field. Everybody is being a little — no, everybody’s doing exactly what they’re supposed to do. Some people are being strategic, some people are going straight for the wall. So we’ll see what happens. As long as they keep it on wax, I’m good. It’s healthy.

Best memory from Pimp My Ride?

Connecting globally with people. People who really didn’t listen to my music watched that show, so it was connecting to a whole different audience. That was dope.
