For those who don’t know, who is Will Just Chill?
Effortlessly cool and refined. A mix of stylish confidence, laid-back vibes, and a diverse lifestyle with an appreciation for luxury and cultural experiences (like art galleries and scenic views).
How would you describe your sound?
Warm tones and catchy melodies perfect for a late-night drive.
Where are you from? How does that play into your life and career?
I was born and raised in Chicago, but I’ve spent my teens and adult years in Dallas, Texas. Growing up in Chicago, I was surrounded by incredible talent—artists like Kanye West, R. Kelly, Twista, Crucial Conflict, and DJs like Boolumaster. Their music didn’t just play; it moved people. Whether it was at a block party or a family gathering, certain songs had the power to take over, bringing out raw emotion and pure joy. Chicago gave me my foundation—my roots in rhythm, storytelling, and the power of music to connect. But the South, especially Dallas, shaped me. It gave me the space to evolve, refine my sound, and find my voice as an artist. Together, these places define who I am and the music I create.
Biggest influences?
My biggest influence is definitely my mom. She was the lead singer of a group called “Serenade” back in the ’80s, and one of their popular songs was I Like the Little Boy in You. She’s always been my biggest supporter and would say, “Son, if you’ve got your front, I’ve got your back.” She’s always encouraged me to embrace creativity and follow my passion for making music, which has been a driving force in my journey.
At what point did you realize this music thing was forreal?
I started making music in 2009, but it wasn’t until college, around 2012, that I realized it was something I wanted to take seriously. I studied Commercial Music. The program focused on everything from performance and songwriting to audio engineering and music business. It gave me a solid foundation and the technical skills I needed to navigate the music industry, whether it’s creating in the studio, managing live sound, or understanding the business side of things. That’s when I knew this was more than just a passion.
What was the inspiration behind your name?
Funny story, my name came from a joke in high school. Every day, when I’d pass my teammate D. Smith in the hallway, he’d call out, “Will… Just Chillll.” It became a thing, and the name just stuck.
What inspired your new song “11:41 in Milan”?
My travels to Italy were the main inspiration for the song. Fashion Week in Milan feels like a movie—the style, parties, the energy, and the confidence of the models on the runway are second to none. When I heard the beat, the melody came to me right away, and the words just fell into place like it was meant to happen. As for King Louie’s feature, it was like passing him the ball with seconds left on the clock, and he hit a half-court buzzer-beater to win the game. His tone and delivery were clutch, making it the perfect collaboration.
What is it you want fans to get from your story?
I want fans to know that anything is possible if you believe in yourself. It doesn’t matter how long it takes—if you want something badly enough, you have the power to go after it and make it happen.
What are 3 essentials you need in the studio?
For me, it’s all about creating a comfortable, focused environment. First, snacks are a must—something like cashews, Reese’s Pieces, Gardettos, or Life Saver gummies that I can munch on throughout the session. Second, I always have an animated movie playing in the background to keep the energy light and creative. Lastly, I love setting the mood with blue lighting; it just adds a vibe that helps me get into the zone.
What are your goals as an artist at this point in your career?
Right now, my main goal is to follow up my current song with another big feature that’ll keep the momentum going. I’m looking to create a snowball effect—each release building on the last to reach new heights and solidify my presence in the music scene.
