Hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, YG Kayboe is an artist who makes music based on real life: pain, struggle, losses, loyalty, and making it out. Everything he raps about comes from experiences he’s lived, so when people hear his music, they’re hearing the real him.
Being from Memphis shaped everything about me. The city gave me my sound, my mindset, and my hustle. Growing up here taught me to stay strong through adversity, and I carry that energy into every song I make. Memphis made me who I am.Who are your biggest influences?
My biggest influences are the people I grew up listening to and the people I’ve lost along the way. I take inspiration from real-life experiences more than anything because that’s what gives my music its authenticity. At what point did you realize this music thing was for real?
I knew it was serious when I saw people connecting with my music and repeating my lyrics back to me. That’s when I realized my story could actually reach people and motivate them.
What was the inspiration behind your name?
“YG” represents where I come from and the people around me, while “Kayboe” is my identity. Together it’s a name that represents me, my story, and everything I’ve been through.
Congrats on Blood On The Pen 3! What’s one thing you want fans to take away from this project?
I want people to understand that no matter what you’ve been through, you can keep pushing. Blood On The Pen 3 is full of real emotions and real situations. Every track comes from a genuine place.
What’s your favorite song on the project and why?
My favorite changes depending on the day, but I’d say “Head Held High” is the one that’s closest to me, I opened up the most emotionally on it. Those are always the hardest records to make, but they end up meaning the most.
What do you want fans to get from your story?
I want people to know they aren’t alone. Everybody goes through pain, losses, and setbacks. If my story helps somebody keep going or inspires them to chase their own dreams, then I’ve done what I set out to do.
Three things you need in the studio?
A good engineer, the right vibe, and complete focus. Once I lock in, everything else takes care of itself.
What are your goals as an artist at this point in your career?
I’m focused on reaching a bigger audience without changing who I am. I want to keep growing independently, build a lasting legacy, take care of my family, and prove that real music can still win. I’m just getting started
